Relaxation Oscillation Profile of Limit Cycle in Predator-prey System

It is known that some predator-prey system can possess a unique limit cycle which is globally asymptotically stable. For a prototypical predatorprey system, we show that the solution curve of the limit cycle exhibits temporal patterns of a relaxation oscillator, or a Heaviside function, when certain parameter is small.

Hysteresis and relaxation in bistable diffusive sandpile

Several problems in the physics of L→H transition and pedestal formation are examined using a simple and universal sandpile model, which incorporates key features of a confined plasma, namely, diffusion, shear induced bistability of turbulent transport, and a local magnetohydrodynamic !MHD" limit on the gradient. The main focus of this study is the effect of ambient diffusion, representative of...

Oscillation Problems' Review

Physical dispersion resulting from anelasticity is investigated from the point of view of linear viscoelastic models and causality relations. It is concluded that inasmuch as Q in the earth's mantle is nearly independent of frequency, at least in the seismic frequency band, a dispersion relation in the form of C(o•) = C(wr)[1 q(l/•rQm) In (O)/OOr)] must be used for correcting the effect of phys...

Stability, Relaxation, and Oscillation of Biodegradation Fronts

We study the stability and oscillation of traveling fronts in a three-component, advection-reaction biodegradation model. The three components are pollutant, nutrient , and bacteria concentrations. Under an explicit condition on the biomass growth and decay coeecients, we derive reduced, two-component, semilinear hyperbolic models through a relaxation procedure, during which biomass is slaved t...

Conservation laws III: relaxation limit

In this paper, we apply the invariant region theory [1] and the compensated compactness method [2] to study the singular limits of stiff relaxation and dominant diffusion for the Cauchy problem of a system of quadratic flux and the Le Roux system, and obtain the convergence of the solutions to the equilibrium states of these systems.
